Vincent Joseph Schmidt, Sr.
Vincent Joseph Schmidt passed away at home on July 8 with his wife Dee at his side. He was 94.
He was born March 7, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended St. Boniface Grade School until he was ten years old when his father was transferred to Seattle by the Great Northern Railway. In Seattle he attended Sacred Heart Grade School and O’Dea High School.
He enlisted in the Navy when he was seventeen and after boot camp was attached to the Marine Corps underwater demolition team. After contracting bilateral bronchial pneumonia, he spent six months in a naval hospital. After his recovery he was attached to the USS Makin Island where he was stationed until his honorable discharge.
He returned to Sioux City where he married Dolores Helene Grimm in December 1946. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in December 2018. He retired from Frederick and Nelson in 1990 as foreman/supervisor of the furniture refinishing department. He was an active member of St. Pius X parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marcella Nelson. He is survived by his wife Dolores (Dee); his sons, V. Joseph and Michael, daughters, Deann and Mariann; sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held for family members on July 31 at Holyrood Cemetery.
