Sister Kay Wejrowski, OP
Sister Kay Wejrowski, formerly known as Sister Vincent Ferrer Wejrowski, died February 15 at St. Joseph Residence. She was 89 years old.
She was born in Bremerton, Washington. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Seattle, and received a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Arts degree, both from Seattle University.
She spent 18 years ministering in education in Seattle and Hoquiam, Washington; Miles City, Montana; Pittsburg, and San Leandro, California; and Cuernavaca, Mexico. She was principal for three years at Sacred Heart School in Miles City, and ministered to the Hispanic community for 13 years at St. John of the Cross Parish in Lemon Grove, California. She was Associate Director of Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese of San Diego, California for five years, and a caseworker and paralegal for many years for Catholic Charities Immigrant and Refugee Services in San Diego, working with immigrants seeking assistance and citizenship. Sister became a resident at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, in 2013. She served 53 years in the Dominican Sisters of Edmonds, Washington, and 16 years in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by many loving cousins and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
A Vigil Service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 7 p.m. at Assumption Convent in Seattle. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered at St. Joseph Residence Chapel in Seattle on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Seattle. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian.
