The staff of Northwest Catholic and NWCatholic.org received 17 Catholic Press Awards during the 2018 Catholic Media Conference in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The awards were announced June 15.

In the individual excellence categories, Keri Hake, Northwest Catholic’s advertising sales manager and general business manager, received second place for Advertising/Business/Marketing Professional of the Year.

The judges praised Hake for her “high level of expertise” and her “broad contributions” to Northwest Catholic.

Also in individual excellence, Anna Weaver received honorable mention for Multimedia Journalist of the Year. (Weaver, Northwest Catholic’s multimedia editor from 2013-18, now works for the Hawaii Catholic Herald.)

The awards were presented by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, which this year received more than 2,900 entries from 233 member publications and 506 individuals. Northwest Catholic was recognized for work done in 2017 in a wide range of categories, including writing, multimedia content, advertising and graphic design.

In the Spanish-language division, Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo won first place for his regular columns in Northwest Catholic. “The author manages interesting topics about the human faith,” the judges said. “It’s important to keep a tangible message for the public; and call people to manage their faith with pragmatism, and make real the purest Christian ethics that Jesus gave to us. The author gave [that] and more.”
