Gig Harbor school to hold evening prayer vigil Dec. 6

A girl who died Wednesday night in a house fire was a student at St. Nicholas School in Gig Harbor.

Eight-year-old Alice Ali Babson and her father, Thomas, were killed when their home on Fox Island went up in flames Dec. 4, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Ali’s mother, June; 12-year-old sister, Katie; and twin brother, Tobey, escaped the fire.

Ali, a third-grader at St. Nicholas School, was a member of the school choir, said Principal Michele Cory, who described Ali as outgoing, creative and funny.

She's going to be greatly missed, Cory said, adding that classmates were already rallying around honoring her and her spirit.

Two grief counselors from Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma were at the school Thursday and visited with every class, Cory said.

The school planned to hold a prayer vigil in the school courtyard at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.

A fund to support the Babson family has been set up at Wells Fargo banks, Cory said; contributions may be designated for Babson Family Donation.
