SEATTLE – The Catholic bishops of Washington state have endorsed Initiative 1639 on gun violence prevention. “Violent tragedies have become far too frequent in our communities and very powerful weapons are often too accessible,” the bishops of Seattle, Yakima and Spokane said in a joint statement released October 18.
VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis has officially expelled two Chilean bishops from the clerical state. Both men were accused of sexual abuse of minors. The decision was issued without the possibility to appeal, the Vatican announced on Saturday.

The reforms include the establishment of an independent reporting mechanism to receive complaints against bishops, and the development of a code of conduct for bishops.
