Benedictine nun passes on mission, values through football coaching

WASHINGTON - Sister Lisa Maurer is a Benedictine nun who lives at the St. Scholastica Monastery, which shares a campus with the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. She works at the Benedictine Health Center next to the monastery, serving senior members of the community. She prays, studies and ministers at local parishes.

Even in the first week of June workouts, the O’Dea High School football team is all   business and hustle. As their maroon-and-gold buses arrive at Seattle’s Genesee Park, the players file off and literally run to the practice field, where they immediately begin drills.

People of Faith - Western Washington’s Jim Caviezel plays legendary Catholic football coach

Jim Caviezel, the Catholic actor best known for playing Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, and the current co-star of CBS’ Person of Interest, also has ties to Western Washington. Caviezel was born and raised in Mount Vernon and played high school basketball at both O’Dea High School and John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Seattle. He still has a home in the area.
