SEATTLE – The state’s bishops have appointed Mario Villanueva as executive director of the Washington State Catholic Conference. Villanueva will lead advocacy efforts and represent the bishops of the Archdiocese of Seattle, the Diocese of Spokane and the Diocese of Yakima on public policy matters.

SEATTLE – The state’s bishops have issued a call for “comprehensive immigration reform that honors the dignity of those seeking a better life in the United States, while also addressing the legitimate need for safe and secure borders.”
Below is the prepared testimony that Seattle Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo delivered to the House Public Safety Committee of the Washington State Legislature March 25 in Olympia. Bishop Elizondo spoke in support of SB 5339, which would abolish the death penalty, on behalf of the Washington State Catholic Conference.
OLYMPIA – The Catholic bishops of Washington state submitted testimony Tuesday in support of Senate Bill 5339, which seeks to repeal the death penalty and require that life imprisonment without the possibility of parole become the sentence for aggravated first degree murder convictions.
OLYMPIA – Students from Catholic schools around the archdiocese — and even one school in Spokane — spent a day in Olympia visiting their lawmakers and learning more about legislation to improve school safety.
