Trinette Mae V. Canares

COVINGTON

Trinette Canares, a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, died October 29 in a car accident. She was 17.

Born in Cabanatuan City, Phillipines, she was a senior at Kentwood High School. She enjoyed playing basketball and was an altar server at St. John the Baptist Church.

A funeral Mass was celebrated November 13 at St. John the Baptist Church.

Adolph Carmen “Carl” Vigna

BONNEY LAKE

Carl Vigna, a member of St. Andrew Parish in Sumner, died October 30 of natural causes. He was 95.

Born in Tacoma, he served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and graduated from the University of Washington in 1952.He worked for the Boeing Company for 34 years, retiring as a facilities manager in 1986.

He married Ruth Christenson in 1946.

He served as president of the parish council long range planning committee, project manager of the new church and a member of the men’s club at St. Andrew Parish.

He also served as a Bonney Lake City Council member, president of the Bonney Lake Rotary Club and a member of the Sumner Rotary club.

He was preceded in death by his brother Irving. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; brother David; sister, Gloria; sons, Steven and Marc; daughters, Debra, Carla and Ann; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated November 19 at St. Andrew Church.

Sister Mary Grondin, SP

SEATTLE

Sister Mary Grondin, a Sister of Providence for 62 years, died November 14 at St. Joseph Residence. She was 81.

Born 1937 in Detroit, she graduated from Villa Cabrini Academy, Burbank, California in 1955 and entered the Sisters of Providence at Mount St. Vincent, Seattle that same year and became a novice in 1956. She professed first vows in 1957, receiving the name Sister Terrence, and professed final vows in 1962.

She earned multiple degrees from Seattle University and the University of San Francisco. She also earned teaching credentials for Holy Names College.

She held nursing positions in Washington and Oregon. After obtaining her counseling degree, she served at St. John School and St. George School in Seattle. In her later years, she became involved in low income housing management in Washington, Oregon and California.

Sister Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Hugh; sisters Bertyn, Nancy and Elizabeth. She is survived by her sister Gerry and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated November 27 at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle.

Sister Claire Gagnon, SP

SEATTLE

Sister Claire Gagnon, a Sister of Providence for 79 years, died November 17 at St. Joseph Residence. She was 99.

Born 1919 in St. Prosper, Quebec, Canada, she entered the Sisters of Providence in Montreal in 1938 and became a novice in 1939. She professed first vows in 1940, receiving the name Sister Marcelle Odile, and professed final vows in 1943.

She served as an infirmary companion, student nurse and laboratory technician prior to completing a Bachelor of Science/Nursing degree from Seattle University in 1951.She then served in medical supervision and administration in Washington and Oregon until 1974.

She completed her clinical pastoral education and served for 28 years at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, retiring in 2003.

Sister Mary was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. She is survived by her cousin Rita Ebacher.

A funeral Mass was celebrated November 26 at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle.
