Arlene Harrington

SEATTLE — Arlene “Peach” Harrington of Bothell died of meningitis Feb. 20, 2024, in Seattle. She was 69.

Born Oct. 16, 1954, to William and Helen Adamek in St. Paul, Minnesota, she moved to Seattle when she was 13 and attended Bishop Blanchet High School. It was there, performing in the musical “Hello Dolly,” that she met Walter Harrington. They married on Sept. 16, 1975.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and then worked at the Nordstrom headquarters for 20 years before earning a master’s degree in education. She was a teacher in Seattle Public Schools for 26 years, retiring in June 2018. She continued to work as a substitute and volunteered weekly in her grandchildren’s classrooms.

For nearly 40 years, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Seattle, helping with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and singing in the choir for 25 years. She was also a school volunteer and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed reading, walking, journaling, traveling and being a grandmother.

In addition to her husband Wallie, she is survived by sons Brian (Megan) and Andrew (Ingrid); brother Stevie (Solveig) Adamek and grandchildren Dylan, Alice, Luke, Freya and Viggo. She was preceded in death by sisters Rita Bingham and Teri Soike and brother David Adamek.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon March 16 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Seattle. Interment will be at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
