Archbishop Paul D. Etienne sent a video message from Rome Tuesday morning,
inviting the Archdiocese of Seattle to join Catholics around the world Oct. 17 for a day of fasting and prayer, specifically for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land.

His invitation comes in response to an Oct. 13 statement from the patriarchs and heads of the churches of Jerusalem that urged “the people of our congregations and all those of goodwill around the world to observe a Day of Prayer and Fasting” on Oct. 17.

In the video, Archbishop Etienne — who is in Rome for the synod — encourages “prayer and fasting, making times of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, offering rosaries, any spiritual sacrifice or offering that can be made for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land and around the world, but most specifically for the needs there in Israel.”

“Know that your offerings are greatly appreciated and can do much in the hands of a loving God,” Archbishop Etienne said.
