1. Enthrone the Sacred Heart in your home.

Displaying an image or statue of the Sacred Heart in your home, also called enthronement, is one way to remind us of Christ’s love. Say the Sacred Heart enthronement prayer* and place the image where you can light a candle or place a flower to pray.

2. Pray.

Memorize a traditional Sacred Heart prayer like the Morning Offering or something as simple as “Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in you” or “Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, touch our hearts and make them like your own.” Knowing prayers by heart means we carry them with us everywhere. We can pray while we wait in line or sit in traffic.

3. Attend First Friday Mass and adoration.

Receiving the Eucharist is intrinsic to the devotion to the Sacred Heart. When Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, he said that those who receive Communion on nine consecutive first Fridays will receive the “grace of final repentance: They will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments. My Divine Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.” In addition to First Fridays, take part in Holy Hours and adoration to focus on love of Christ.

4. Read Scripture.

Reflect on the Gospels and meditate on God’s word in the light of the love and mercy of Christ. One easy way to start this habit is to review the daily Mass readings at USCCB.org or on apps like Hallow. “The Sacred Heart is a synthesis of the Gospel,” Pope Francis wrote in “Dilexit nos.”

5. Perform works of mercy.

When we feed the hungry, bury the dead and forgive others, the love of Christ comes to life in us — and, as Pope Leo XIV wrote in “Dilexi te,” such works help us “all become an image of Christ and his mercy towards the weakest.”
