Mary Buchmeier, a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Parish in Sammamish, died Dec. 28, 2013. She was 100.

She was born in Indianapolis and graduated cum laude from St. Agnes Academy. She helped her family during the Depression and World War II working at Diamond Chain Company. After she married Major George Buchmeier, she raised her family in various locations, as well as being active in community-building and charities.

After her five children completed their educations, she graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in history and teaching. She taught high school in Bellevue during the 1970s and 1980s.

She was an active member of St. Louise de Marillac Parish in Bellevue, caring for the altar and the funeral ministry.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George Buchmeier, and her son George Gregory Buchmeier.

Survivors include her sons Karl of Bainbridge Island, Peter of Loveland, Colo., and Father Robert Buchmeier of La Plata, Md.; daughter, Margaret Sobota of Camano Island; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Jan. 13 at Mary, Queen of Peace Church.

Victor Dela Merced Sr.SEATTLE

Victor Dela Merced, a member of St. Mark Parish, died Jan. 19. He was 93.

He was born in Baliwag, Bulacan, in the Philippines, and lived in Seattle for 35 years. He had been a business owner.

He is survived by his sons, Danilo and Victor Jr.; daughters, Elenita and Olivia; and four grandchildren.

He was to be interred at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.

Lorenzo Garay SandovalSHORELINE

Lorenzo Garay Sandoval, a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Seattle, died of lung cancer on Jan. 26. He was 85.

He was born in Chillan, Chile. He received a doctorate in forestry management and was a professor of forestry.

He is survived by his wife, Hortensia Garay; sons, Lorenzo and Alvaro; daughters, Magdalena, Loretta and Mirka; and 12 grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 1 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
