Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle


Adeline Dunlap

SEATTLE - Adeline Dunlap died May 27, 2022, in Seattle, of complications from a stroke. She was 95. 

Born June 21, 1926, in Taylor, North Dakota, she was educated in North Dakota and married John Edward Dunlap on March 14, 1946, in Yakima. She lived in Seattle for 69 years. 

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Mark Parish in Shoreline and the parish’s Queen of Heaven Guild. She was a former member of Silver Sneakers Gym in Edmonds. 

She enjoyed her family, praying, dancing, baking and wood refinishing. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2013. 

She is survived by her sons, MichaelStephen and Mark Dunlap; daughters, Mary Kay Pipes and Joan Seivold; sisters, Arlene Betzing and Laura Miller; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 10 at St. Mark Church in Shoreline. Interment will be at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline. 


Colleen Kerschbaum  

SEATTLE – Colleen Kerschbaum died May 5, 2022, at her home in Seattle. She was 100. 

Born June 23, 1921, in Yakima, she lived for 84 years in Seattle, where she was a member of St. Therese Parish and St. James Cathedral Parish. 

She was a homemaker, banker, volunteer, animal lover and world traveler. She found joy in her family and tending her garden. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat, in 1977. 

She is survived by her son, Michael (Maureen); granddaughters, Karen (Luke) and Kate (Rob); two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. 

A private family service will be held. 

The family suggests memorial donations to Providence Hospice of Seattle. 


Joseph Martinez 

FEDERAL WAY - Joseph Martinez died of heart failure, pneumonia and diabetes April 6, 2022, in Federal Way. He was 83. 

He was born May 18, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, to Jose Dionicio Martinez and Mary Grace Mascarenos. He served in the Army, worked as an aerospace engineer for 32 years, retiring in 1990, and worked for the Seattle Mariners for 10 years.  

He was a resident of Federal Way for more than 50 years, where he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and St. Theresa Parish. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, Cursillo, Kairos and the choir.  

He was very involved in his community, cooking meals for the homeless for a decade, giving away 200 bicycles to children as a Kiwanis member, helping build a playground at Steel Lake Park and donating homegrown produce to the Federal Way food bank. He sang in Federal Way Chorale and was in many musical productions. 

He enjoyed the outdoors — camping, hiking Mount Rainier, fishing, playing golf and softball, and skiing both on snow and water. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and gardening. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Martinez; and sister, Judy Martinez. 

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Martinez; sons, Daniel (Shannon) Martinez, Bruce (Mai) Martinez and James Tarr; daughters, Sheila Martinez and Denise Tarr; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews; and his first wife, Patricia Martinez. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated April 19 at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Interment was at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.
